By definition, this category of plants is misunderstood and should be re-defined.

The current definition and hence its reputation of WEED plants is:

Weed    wēd/  noun: weed; plural noun: weeds

    .     1. a wild plant growing where it is not wanted and in competition with cultivated plants.

Contrary to their definition, most weeds are of incredible importance to the soil and plants; they are not only, not competing with other plants, but are preparing the soil for future crops. Weeds can predict the health of the land and can restore depleted or disturbed land (i.e human activity like logging or gardening, for example, or after a natural disturbance such as fire.)

Beneficial weeds are extremely helpful in the garden by holding top-soil, pulling up water and nutrients, providing food, controlling insects and restoring the overall health of the ecosystem.

Many WEEDS like Dandelion or Milk thistle have deep tap-roots that hold soil in place and catch and hold water, which means that they absorb up nutrients from deep in the soil and store them in their leaves. Making them a super food and plants with great medicinal value.

Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) It is one of the most researched Medicinal weeds and one that has had a lot of attention, mainly due to its ability to support normal functions of the liver, gallbladder and kidneys.

Dandelion leaf is a natural diuretic commonly used to remove excess water and toxins from the body while helping to compensate for potassium loss due to increased urination. For example, during some Cancer therapies edemas is a common side effect that can be relieved with this herb with no interference of treatment.  Just easing the side effects of medications.

The bitter compounds in dandelion root help stimulate healthy digestion and increases appetite, supporting the health and function of natural bacteria of the gastrointestinal tract.

Milk thistle, another weed plant, has actually been used for over 2,000 years. The plant is native to the Mediterranean region. Milk thistle seeds contain a bioflavonoid complex known as silymarin, responsible for the main medical benefits of the plant.

Milk thistle may fight liver disease and reduce liver injury caused by a number of drugs and environmental toxins.

Weeds like Dandelion and Milk thistle are medicinal both for the land and for humans. They can help restore balance from the soil to the metabolic process in human health.
